Practicing law is both challenging and rewarding. It’s also stressful. The best way to manage the stress and excitement that often exists within a law firm is to create a healthy environment for your employees. It will encourage your staff to create a positive balance between their work and home life.
Create a monthly or weekly wellness or health challenge. At the end of the year, the staff member who performed the most challenges gets a reward.
Establish a “quiet room” or silent zone for meditating, relaxing, or just sitting peacefully. No stress, drama, or work-related frustrations will be allowed in there.
Offer flexible hours in case a staff member needs to take a child to school or go to an appointment outside of work.
Give staff members the option of having a sit/stand desk for times when they don’t feel like sitting. Adjustable desks are now available that can be transitioned from one position to another with a few quick movements.
Hold weekly workshops on the importance of health and well-being. Invite local massage therapists to come in during lunch one day of the week and offer chair massages or reflexology.
Offer each staff member a day off on their birthday or the anniversary date. If they’ve been at the office longer than 5 years, throw in a gift card for lunch at their favorite restaurant.
In the fast-paced environment of a law office, it’s important to keep your staff members healthy. They will be more productive and motivated to provide the best possible work for each client. Put your staff’s health first and they will reward you by going above and beyond what’s expected of them.
