Essential tips for court reporters

Working as a court reporter from home can be extremely lucrative if you know how to manage your time and work efficiently without being in an office setting. When you begin to understand the nature of the business, you will learn that accuracy, punctuality, and professionalism will be the key to your success.

The following tips will guide you as you start out on your new journey:

  1. Maintain Your Schedule
Set your schedule for the week and work to consistently meet each deadline. Don’t take on more work than you can handle because this will eventually lead to stress and simple mistakes. Keep a calendar handy and write down each deadline so you have a reminder.

  2. Set Boundaries
Set boundaries so that you are uninterrupted while you are working. Make sure that your family and friends know when you will be working and that you will not be available for phone calls, texting, or any other activity until your work is finished.

  3. Comfort is Important
When you work from home, you have all of your comforts at your disposal. Use them to your advantage! A comfortable workspace is a productive one.

  4. Stay Energized and Focused
Being in your own home may make it tempting to take a nap or frequent breaks. Remember that your office is your workplace and do what you need to do to remain focused and energized. Stand up and stretch as needed. Throw in a few healthy snacks to boost your energy levels while you are working.

  5. Light the Way!
Make sure that you have the light you need so that you don’t strain your eyes. Open the curtains and let the natural sunlight flood your workspace. Keep the room well-lit and you will avoid headaches and eyestrain.
